Daniel Dawson, codename Haze, is H-Cell's former special operations sniper — a man whose senses were permanently altered by witnessing an unidentifiable entity, leaving him prone to overwhelming 'impossible details' that bleed into normal perception. His only bond outside the cell is his best friend Princeton Lamb. He is the cell's tactical lead: planning assault approaches, conducting security audits, assessing demolitions, and providing overwatch from elevated positions with his personally owned rifle.
Haze's defining operational characteristic is competence under extreme pressure, paired with a sharp instinct for when situations are about to become catastrophic. He declines to examine the filament heart on the grounds that it is not good for him — a self-aware acknowledgement of his own perceptual vulnerabilities. He accurately identifies the demolition charges' structural placement as professional-grade, proposes the AA gun and sniper overwatch plan for the Oasis assault, and eventually brings Das Ungerhauer to the ground with a critical submachine gun burst after sustained fire from multiple sources barely slowed the creature.
The bedsheet theft from the Convent — undertaken because he was the obvious choice for a stealth operation, being the only credible night operative in the group — ends badly, with a creak audible throughout the building, a confrontation with Mother Superior Theodora, and a subsequent morning of shame. He handles the aftermath by initially denying any knowledge of Sister Marguerite before quietly remembering he was the one being reprimanded as they left.
