Pendleton's Office within Cairo HQ is the most heavily used single location in the North Africa arc. It is the cell's formal liaison point with British Military Intelligence, where Pendleton translates Brandt's journal, receives the cell's reports, briefs them on the Hedgehog arrangement, and — worryingly — conducts his own independent research into the Cairo Museum's antiquities collection. By the time the cell returns from their first desert expedition, Pendleton's appearance has notably deteriorated: unshaved, red-eyed, and dishevelled, he shows signs of being drawn too deeply into the material he was asked merely to translate.
