Sister Marguerite

Sister Marguerite is a young nun at the Convent of Saint Mary and the Twelve Apostles who discovers Haze conducting his nocturnal bedsheet theft and — rather than raising the alarm — takes his hand, leads him urgently into the building, hides him in a dark closet, and signals him to silence whilst other nuns search outside. She speaks only in a language Haze does not understand, but her intent is unmistakably protective and conspiratorial, and her behaviour in the closet — tracing her fingers along his neck scars, pressing close — reads as frankly un-nun-like. Mother Superior Theodora subsequently informs H-Cell that Sister Marguerite has been reminded firmly of her vows. Whether her unusual behaviour reflects genuine sympathy, a prior encounter with Haze, or something more unsettling is not resolved.
